Open the sprint overview
Open Sprints. The All, Active, Planning, and Completed tabs filter the current organization's list. Completed also includes canceled sprints. Each row shows, among other things, the period, task count, and estimated hours. With capacity set, a utilization bar is added.
Create a sprint
Click the action to create a sprint.
The current create dialog offers no project picker. Sprints already linked to a project some other way can show that project. The Sprint goal field is text, not a link to the Goals module.
- Give it a unique name, for example Website Release October.
- Describe the desired outcome in the sprint goal.
- Set a start and end date. The end date shouldn't be before the start date.
- Optionally enter the total available team capacity in hours, for example 80 hours for the whole sprint.
- Save and open the new sprint. It starts in the Planning status.
Add existing tasks
In the sprint, open Add from backlog. Search for a task name and add the task you want via the action on its row. You can pick several tasks one after another. The dialog links existing tasks; create new tasks in the Tasks module.
Backlog here means the selection pool: the organization's tasks that aren't in this sprint yet. It isn't limited to the Backlog task status or to a specific project, and can include completed tasks too. At most 200 candidates are loaded; search only covers that set.
Edit target hours
Click the target hours on the task row, enter the estimate, and confirm the edit. An empty entry removes the estimate. The change affects the original task's hour field and isn't a separate sprint estimate. Maintain task status and other task details in the Tasks module.
Check capacity
Compare the sum of estimated task hours against the stored sprint capacity. At 60 estimated hours and 80 hours of capacity, utilization is 75 percent. This value describes planned load, not work already done. With no capacity set, no matching percentage is calculated.
Start and close a sprint
Use the Start action on a sprint in Planning. Close is available on an active sprint. These actions exist both in the overview and in the open sprint. The change updates the sprint status; it doesn't complete open tasks and doesn't automatically move them into a follow-up sprint. Once closed, the board tab shows the retro view with Done and Not done.
Change the name or remove tasks
You can edit the name in the sprint header. Use the remove action on a task row to clear the sprint assignment without deleting the task itself. The current detail area offers no full edit form for period, goal, capacity, and project. So check those when you first create the sprint.
Delete a sprint
Use the delete action in the sprint overview and confirm the prompt. Under the current database schema, the sprint and its assignments are removed; the tasks stay. The sprint view offers no restore action. Reports are covered in Understand sprint progress, time, and burndown.
Common pitfalls
A task can show up in several sprints
Adding a task doesn't automatically remove older sprint links. For tasks you've picked up elsewhere, also check the previous sprint. This doesn't copy the task; changes to it apply to every linked view.
Double-check the display after changes
Right after adding a task, it can briefly show 0 actual hours. Reload the sprint to pick up existing entries. Also check, after changing an estimate or name, whether it saved.
Frequently asked questions
Can I schedule tasks via drag and drop?
The current sprint detail page uses a picker dialog via Add from backlog. The task list isn't a drag-and-drop kanban board.
Does ending a sprint automatically complete open tasks?
No. The sprint status and task statuses are separate. Deliberately plan any not-done tasks further afterward.
Is capacity calculated automatically from the team?
In the sprint dialog, you enter the total hours yourself. Utilization compares that number against the linked tasks' estimates.
