App tab
Shows product-wide usage with no website/web app split: total users, average daily active users (DAU), stickiness (DAU/unique users), and, if configured, a tracked event tagged for the App surface.
- An area chart shows the DAU trend over the period.
- Platform breakdown lists operating systems (iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, Linux, …) with share and user count.
- Top pages shows up to 15 paths with views, visitors, bounce rate, and change versus the previous period, paginated 7 entries at a time.
- Device types (Desktop/Mobile/Tablet) and further tagged events follow below.
Website and Web App tabs
Both tabs show the same set of metrics, filtered by the URL pattern stored in settings for each: page views, unique visitors, average session duration and bounce rate, plus tagged events.
- An area chart with the daily visitor trend.
- Top pages and Traffic sources (referrer, "Direct" with no detected referrer), each up to 10–15 entries.
- Device types and Countries (up to 10, by visitor share) side by side, if both provide data.
- Web Vitals (LCP, FCP, INP, CLS, TTFB) with a good/needs improvement/poor rating and a sample count — this requires PostHog to be receiving Web Vitals events.
If no URL pattern is set, the tab instead shows unfiltered data for the whole integration, with a note that no filter is active.
Separate Website and Web App by URL pattern
The split is done via a URL pattern each, in settings. If both patterns are set, the Website tab automatically excludes URLs matching the Web App pattern.
Common pitfalls
Web Vitals stays empty without matching tracking
The Web Vitals card only shows values if PostHog is actually receiving $web_vitals events (for example via the PostHog Web Vitals plugin). Without those events, the card stays empty even if the rest of the website analysis works.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between App and Website/Web App?
App shows all of the integration's usage data with no filter. Website and Web App additionally filter that same data by a stored URL pattern, so you can, for example, analyze the marketing website and the actual application separately.
Why is the Website or Web App tab empty?
Either the analytics integration is missing entirely, or no URL pattern has been set for that tab yet — in that case, a note shows that the integration's entire, unfiltered data is being shown.
