Set up your master password
Open Vault. If no Vault has been set up yet, Set up Vault appears.
- Enter a master password with at least ten characters.
- Repeat it in the second field.
- Click Create Vault.
- Back up the recovery words shown next, before you continue.
Back up the twelve recovery words
The Back up recovery code screen shows a single twelve-word code in a fixed order. Write down every word outside this Vault and store it where no one else can access it. Confirm via checkbox that you've backed it up, and continue. The words aren't twelve separate one-time codes; together they unlock the Vault. There's no later view of this code in the regular UI.
Unlock and lock day to day
On the locked screen, enter your master password and unlock Vault. The lock icon labeled Lock locks it immediately. After about five minutes without mouse movement or keyboard input in the Vault window, it locks automatically; working in another tab doesn't keep it active. If the UI shows a wait time after failed attempts, wait it out.
Optionally enable Windows Hello
On supported devices, after unlocking you can start the offered Windows Hello setup and confirm the device dialog. After that, Unlock with Windows Hello becomes available. This depends on your browser, device, and its support for the required WebAuthn feature. The local setup doesn't carry over to other browsers automatically; it can go missing after clearing browser data. Keep your master password and recovery code regardless.
Open Vault with the recovery code
The recovery code unlocks your existing Vault. It changes neither your account password nor your master password automatically.
- Sign in to Project Manager as usual and open Vault.
- Choose Forgot password? Use recovery code.
- Enter the twelve words in their original order, separated by spaces.
- Confirm the recovery and check your own entries.
Tell a full reset apart
Below the recovery input is Still stuck? Fully reset Vault. This action doesn't save any data: it deletes your own entries including trash and recovery data, folders, outgoing shares, and your own sharing keys. Only after Permanently reset in the confirmation dialog is an empty new Vault set up. Don't use this as a regular password change. Without a working unlock method, the UI offers no way to recover the old encrypted content.
Common pitfalls
Recovery currently doesn't load all extra data
The current recovery flow opens your own entries, but doesn't load shares and trash the way a normal unlock does. An empty view there doesn't prove that data was deleted. Don't reset Vault prematurely; use another set-up unlock method, or check the behavior with support.
A reset also affects received shares
A reset removes your previous private sharing key. Copies already sent to you can't be reopened with newly set-up keys. Ask senders to revoke and re-share after you set things up again.
Frequently asked questions
Are recovery words my Project Manager sign-in?
No. They unlock Vault after your normal account sign-in. They replace neither your email address nor your account password.
Can I set a new master password using recovery?
The current recovery dialog opens Vault but doesn't offer changing the master password. Fully resetting deletes existing data and isn't a password change that keeps your data.
Why doesn't Windows Hello work on another device?
The setup depends on local browser and device support. Unlock with your master password or recovery code; an existing local setup isn't carried over automatically.
